MG+M attorneys have served as lecturers and contributors to various bar associations’ continuing legal education programs and have served on the board of directors for various educational and charitable institutions.
Our team has been recently active in the following charitable initiatives:
Art & Creativity for Healing
Art & Creativity for Healing’s (ACFH) mission is to support emotional healing through art and creative expression for those living in pain, grief, fear or stress. ACFH supports emotional healing for children, families, individuals and military personnel suffering from the emotional impacts of abuse, illness, grief, fear or stress using its Art4Healing® method. The organization's individual workshops and community programs offer expression, encouragement, clarity and insight. MG+M Partner Tina Van Dam is a board member for the organization. MG+M has volunteered with the organization and assembled resources for underserved school districts in the area.
Covenant House
Covenant House meets immediate needs for food, clothing, safety, and medical and mental health care. With specialized programs for young parents and their small children, as well as for human trafficking survivors, they help young people experiencing homelessness to advance their goals and achieve sustainable independence with education, job readiness and career pathways programs. MG+M has volunteered with the organization and supported it through our 2022 holiday giving campaign.
Department of Children and Families
The Department of Children and Families (DCF) strives to ensure that children are able to grow in a safe environment, free from abuse and neglect. DCF provides adoption programs, foster care, adolescent services and family support to those in the greater Boston area. In support of DCF, MG+M participates in an annual holiday gift drive to provide children with items on their holiday wish lists.
Dress for Success
Dress for Success is a global not-for-profit organization that empowers women to achieve economic independence by providing a network of support, professional attire and development tools to help women thrive in work and life. MG+M volunteers with Dress for Success to put on professional development presentations and fundraising events.
Food Bank of Contra Costa & Solano
The Food Bank of Contra Costa & Solano hosts more than 75 food distributions each week in Contra Costa and Solano County. The food bank partners with over 260 local nonprofits to help carry out its mission of ending hunger. Nearly half of the food they distribute is through partner agencies, including soup kitchens, neighborhood pantries, transitional housing services, child-care centers and other organizations. MG+M has volunteered with the food bank to pack perishable food items for distribution.
GallantFew
GallantFew provides one-on-one transition assistance and veteran support to any service member or veteran seeking guidance along their transition from the military and reintegration into American society. As part of the organization’s annual Patriot Challenge, members of the MG+M community walk, run and cycle thousands of miles to raise funds and support veterans transitioning from active military life to civilian life.
Hagar's House
Hagar’s House is a program provided by First Grace Community Alliance (FGCA). FGCA’s mission is to work with and for people in need, especially women and children, by meeting food, housing and other emergency needs, while simultaneously challenging systemic poverty in the greater New Orleans area. Hagar’s House provides an open and empowering residential community, resource coordination and a safe space to transition into sustainable housing. The MG+M Women's Forum has collected books, diapers and household cleaning supplies for the organization.
International Institute of St. Louis
The International Institute of St. Louis provides opportunities for immigrants and refugees to thrive in order to create a welcoming, prosperous and healthy region for all. They offer essential economic and cultural integration services, including English classes, employment, orientation and citizenship preparation. They also host events and make presentations to build inclusive and mutually respectful relationships between foreign-born newcomers and all community members. MG+M has volunteered with the organization by organizing material donations, helping with the apartment set-up process, and providing maintenance work on the building and grounds.
JDRF
JDRF is the leading global organization harnessing the power of research, advocacy and community engagement to advance life-changing breakthroughs for type 1 diabetes (T1D). MG+M Partner John Kurowski and Associate Elizabeth Kurowski Quante are a part of the JDRF Professional Advisors Network and provide pro bono services to the organization and for people with T1D. Elizabeth also serves on the board of the Kansas and Missouri chapter of JDRF and is the chapter’s advocacy team chair. MG+M regularly is a proud sponsor of the organization’s annual gala.
Lotus House
Lotus House is the largest shelter for women and children in the country, sheltering 1,550+ women, youth and children annually. Lotus House provides shelter, resources and multi-faceted, comprehensive supportive services to help its guests successfully exit the shelter system and lead lives of greater opportunity. MG+M has volunteered with the organization and collected books for the shelter.
Ministry of Caring
Ministry of Caring is composed of 19 programs serving members of the Delaware community experiencing homelessness, food insecurity, unemployment and overall poverty. MG+M has volunteered with Ministry of Caring.
Nova Ukraine, Polish Humanitarian Action and World Central Kitchen
MG+M raised more than $17,000 to assist Ukrainian refugees amidst one of the largest humanitarian crises since World War II. The firm focused our donations on these organizations assisting the Ukrainian people on the ground.
Precious Dreams Foundation
Precious Dreams Foundation provides sleep support and mental health awareness for young people in foster care and homeless shelters. MG+M Partner Bernadette Catalana serves on the board of Precious Dreams Foundation. MG+M has volunteered with the organization and collected supplies for its comfort bags. We also supported the organization through our 2022 holiday giving campaign.
Rosie’s Place
Rosie’s Place is the first shelter for women in the United States. Rosie's Place is a multi-service community center that offers women emergency shelter, meals and other services related to health and wellness, housing support, legal assistance, and job search support. MG+M has volunteered with and donated to Rosie's place regularly since 2017.
Sodexo Stop Hunger Foundation
The Sodexo Stop Hunger Foundation’s mission is to certify that children nationwide have dependable access to enough nutritious food necessary to lead a well-rounded life. The foundation also leads the fight against childhood hunger in 44 countries. MG+M has been a longtime sponsor of the Sodexo Stop Hunger Foundation annual Stop Hunger Dinner and has donated tens of thousands of dollars to assist in the organization’s mission of fighting hunger worldwide.
Women’s Bar Association
The Women’s Bar Association allows women in the legal profession to build a personal and professional network while advocating for the equal participation of women in the industry. The WBA aims to build a strong community of women lawyers who make a difference in the profession and in society at large.
