Overview

Carlos Poza focuses his practice on construction, employment, commercial litigation, business counseling and professional liability litigation. He has extensive experience defending architects, engineers, developers, and general contractors in construction cases, and is routinely retained as primary litigation counsel in complex cases throughout California. Carlos also represents commercial and residential builders and specialty contractors in contracting, labor and employment matters, risk management, and ADR proceedings.

Carlos has argued successfully before the California Court of Appeals, and has tried cases to verdict in four California counties. In addition to his practice in the construction and professional liability arenas, he counsels commercial clients on employment and labor issues both in advance of and throughout litigation.

He has lectured regularly at the University of California on topics keyed to risk management and business practices for design professionals and has presented industry-tailored seminars on construction claims handling, best practices, and developments in California’s construction laws.

Carlos is the Co-Chair of the firm’s Diversity, Equity, Inclusion + Belonging Committee. In his role, he is committed to advancing the firm’s core approach to a balanced meritocracy in recruiting, hiring and fostering employee engagement and retention. As a native-born San Franciscan and active member of the University of California Community Outreach Educational Services Program, Carlos’ experience in promoting the value of diversity and inclusiveness has been firsthand. His work with community outreach has strengthened his appreciation for the importance of approaching solutions from an inclusive perspective, promoting equity and alignment with those who have not traditionally been engaged in the decisional process.
